Manus
the six Ws · specification
Developed by Chinese startup Monica.im, branded Manus.
Manus is a general-purpose autonomous AI agent that plans and executes multi-step tasks end-to-end, including browsing, coding, file creation, and data analysis, in a cloud virtual computer using a multi-agent executor and planner architecture.
Accessed as a hosted web service at manus.im.
Launched around March 2025 and continued to scale through 2026.
It exists to deliver finished results from a single objective rather than requiring step-by-step chat prompting.
Runs on top of foundation models such as Claude and Alibaba's Qwen; requires a Manus account to use.
Closed-source commercial hosted service, task execution (browsing, shell, code) happens inside Manus's cloud virtual machine, with data processed by Manus and its underlying model providers.
